PROJECT ANNOTATION:

This project will address three interconnected issues: 1. How changes in world commodity prices and income shocks affect demand for food in Central and Eastern European Countries, the Czech Republic in particular, and the quality of diets. 2. How world commodity markets are transmitted to national prices. 3. What is the impact of agricultural policies and specifically subsidies within Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union on productivity of farms in Central and Eastern Europe. Furthermore, the project will investigate how social, economic, and agricultural policies can be used to cope with the problems of food and nutritional insecurity in Central and Eastern Europe and especially among some vulnerable groups (low income groups, minorities).
